Reviews

One call to Whelen to retrieve the STC for the make and model specific part number, followed by an installation that fit exactly to the airframe. Two hours of install including the paperwork was minimal. The improvement is reasonably priced with very good net lighting effects.

Although not quite a drop in replacement for the 206 (needing to remove the vertical cap, drill holes, and very minor wiring), it is nevertheless a very easy installation. But the best part is how much brighter it is even in daylight. The light can now be seen much further away and is more eye catching than the old oem beacon. Well worth the price - especially in busy airport environments.

Whelen sales support recommended this as the drop-in replacement for my Piper Archer II. I fly in and around busy Bravo airspace and wanted to be extra visible to other aircraft. This beacon exceeded all expectations from size, weight, fit, function, visibility, and battery load. Furthermore, I have been able to clearly see the beacon from the ground (partner flying) from roughly a mile and a half away on a cloudless day. Clear night visibility is many miles. The only negative is that you have to turn it off along with strobes in the clouds on night IFR because of the intensity. Highly recommended if you want ultimate visibility and/or to remove load from your 14V electrical system as I did.

Worked great until I had a Garmin G5 DG installed and this light put out such high Electro Magnetic Interference that the avionics shop could not find a spot in the fuselage (could not put it in the wing due to design) to put the magnetometer. We went back and forth with Whelen and eventually found that their Orion360 worked and swapped them.

Q: Can you verify that 7108051 is the correct choice for a 1974 Cessna 182?

Per the manufacturer: the 7108051 is the correct part for your 182 if no modifications have been made to your aircraft.

Q: Does the LED beacon require the original flasher installed in the aircraft or does it have a flasher built-in?

Powered with aircraft power, no separate power supply required.

Q: What is the difference between Part #7108014 (LED red, 28VDC & 5 hole lower mount (150 ecp)) and Part #7108018 (LED red, 28 VDC, 5 hole lower mount (150 ecp))?

The 7108014 has 12" wire attached to it for installation, and 7108018 has an MS3102R10SL-3P connector wired to the unit for installation. Order 7108018 only if you already have this MS connector on your aircraft.

Q: When I put Beacon for Piper Cherokee this is what came up, would this fit a 1966 Piper Cherokee 180?

Per Whelen, yes part # 11-09909 would work in a Piper Cherokee.

Q: On the 7108055 unit does the adapter come with the unit?

Part number 11-09909 does have a 3-3/4" adapter with the unit.

Q: According to the manufacturer I should purchase part number 01-0771080-05 for my application. Which part number should I select from your table?

Whelen part # 01-0771080-05 is our part # 11-07689.

Q: Will the 7108055 fit a 1969 Cessna 182?

Per Whelen: That model year Cessna (if it is original) has the smaller fin cap which would accommodate the part# 11-07686 product.

Q: Are all parts (including pigtail assembly) included?

It will come with a length wire and connector as shown in the Installation PDF.

Q: 1965 Cessna 150F ser. 15062556. I have the rotating beacon with mirrors and motor. Which drop in beacon will work? Thanks

Yes, these are the same.
