Microair Avionics recommends the Airkit GI ground plane independent, for use with the M760 radio, in situations where the aircraft structure does not offer a suitable ground plane. The Airkit is a completely ground independent antenna which is designed to be used in a wide variety of applications, such as kit-build and composite aircraft. This products is not approved as a primary com antenna. Termination is provided to the industry standard BNC female and supplied with 10m of RG58CU coax cable. The Airkit antenna is one of the easiest antenna to install and has a maximum bandwidth of over 3MHz under 1.6 to 1 SWR. High quality product. For installation of antenna base on outside of fuselage, it would be preferable to have cable run vertically from the bottom, rather than off of the base side.

My current antenna was causing inconsistent transmissions and receiving signals was an issue sometimes. I installed this on my trike due to lack of a needed ground plane. I was able to get a VSWR of 1.0 - 1.1 while transmitting at 122.80 MHz. Transmission cleared up, and I was pulling in signals from 20 miles away whether I wanted them or not. There is a small gap between the bottom antenna and the base that allows it to clamp onto a mounting structure. I did have to move it so the antenna ends were several inches away from metal in order to get the near perfect transmission delivery, but now it should perform better than half the airplanes I come across. Recommend this if you need better reception or transmission.
