Overview

The Airflow Systems X-Series are the first light aircraft oil cooler design in 50 years. Computer modeling and flight testing have been used to develop coolers that deliver significantly lower oil temps with no increase in oil cooler size or oil pressure drop. Designed as a direct replacement for popular oil coolers used in experimental aircraft, the X-SERIES oil coolers are built to Airflow Systems specifications and certified aircraft oil cooler standards. Flight testing on the RV series of aircraft has shown oil temperature drops of 10-15 degrees F for coolers of the same size in the same location. Not FAA approved.

X-Series offers oil coolers in sizes appropriate for everything from low and slow VW powered aircraft to homebuilt Reno racers. Refer to the application guide and detail drawings for assistance in selecting the best oil cooler for your application. Maximum thermal performance is obtained with minimum drag through the use of computer aided air side fin design. All of the coolers are made in the USA.

Reviews

I bought the oil cooler as a replacement to my 50 year old oil cooler(0-320), which had a crack. My oil pressure went from 60 psi to 68-72 psi. The oil temp went down to 178 degrees from 200.

Q: Is the 2008X a direct swap out for the supplied Vans cooler for the RV10? Are any modifications required?

Per the supplier: Cannot swap the 2008x straight in. Easier to swap the 2007X which is what most RV-10 owners are doing.

Q: I just want to clarify, when you describe the unit as No piston squirters, does that mean not for fuel injected engines?

No, this can be used with both fuel injected and carb engines. A piston squirter is a squirter where it shoots oil at the bottom of the piston to keep it cool.

Q: RE the previous question regarding piston squirters.... The nozzle squirts oil, not fuel.

Thank you for providing this feedback. We will post it for our other customers.

Q: What is the weight of the 2002X cooler?

Approx 2.05 lbs.

Q: You need to correct your answer regarding piston squirters. They squirt OIL not fuel at the back of the pistons.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will get it updated immediately.

Q: How much does the 2008X cooler weigh?

Approx 4 lbs.

Q: Is there any limitation on the mounting orientation? Also, can the ports be used for either in or out?

May be mounted in any orientation, either port may be used for in or out.

Q: Does the 2007X come with the recommended baffle for an RV-10?

No baffling is included.
