Overview

The Cozy MK IV is a high-performance, four-seat canard aircraft which is comfortable, efficient, and economical to build. It has a range of about 1,000 miles and a top speed of 200 mph. When constructed according to plans and operated within the approval C.G. range, the canard configuration makes it highly resistant to stalls or loss of position control. The MK IV features full dual control and two-axis trim. The composite construction is very strong, resistant to corrosion and fatigue, and offers better protection to the occupants than other types of construction.

We purchased the Cozy designs (Cozy Mark IV) from Co-Z Development, and as of January 1, 2004 have the exclusive right to market these designs. These designs are protected with U.S. copyrights, and we have licensed no one else to copy all or any part of these designs to sell, loan, or give to others.

Why build a metal skin oil can with 1940s technology when you can build a 30mpg 200mph composite four seater as budget allows? Additionally, you do not have to worry about a factory going out of business with the Cozy. The plans are excellent. There is a tremendous amount of prior history with these plans. The bugs have been worked out long ago. Build to spec and you will not be disappointed. Buy the plans and join Marc’s Google group! If in doubt, just do it! You can always sell your plans on online for about $350 and only be out of ~$150.

This second set of the M drawings is printed on 36” x 48” paper. The version of the M drawings that comes with the plans is on a much smaller format, carving up many templates and drawings to fit, requiring that the builder trace or otherwise combine the pieces of the templates and take measurements across drawings. The large version combines these carved up templates and drawings so that the builder doesn’t have to do that.

This is a great information package! More than just a brochure, it also includes large, full color pictures, several magazine reviews of the Cozy aircraft, and flight characteristic reports. Also, the video was fantastic a series of videos of the Cozy being taken through its paces in several spectacularly scenic areas of the United States, followed by a discussion of the aircrafts history and features. Definitely worth every penny!

I bought the introductory notes, and the video. The introductory notes are a helpful group of clippings from various magazine articles, and have lots of useful data on the plane. The video is pretty disappointing to be honest, a few minutes of shots of pretty planes flying in very pretty scenery, and not, sadly, much else. More shots of the plane, inside and out, more shots of the construction proces, shots of the engine - so many lost opportunities.

Q&A

Please note, Aircraft Spruce's personnel are not certified aircraft mechanics and can only provide general support and ideas, which should not be relied upon or implemented in lieu of consulting an A&P or other qualified technician. Aircraft Spruce assumes no responsibility or liability for any issue or problem which may arise from any repair, modification or other work done from this knowledge base. Any product eligibility information provided here is based on general application guides and we recommend always referring to your specific aircraft parts manual, the parts manufacturer or consulting with a qualified mechanic.

Q: What are the structural epoxies that are aproved?

We always recommend to use the materials the designer suggests. We have many structual epoxies to choose from : EZ Poxy, MGS, Aeropoxy, Poly Epoxy, and Jeffco.

Q: What would be the cost to buy everything? Also, could you get someone to build it for you?

The cost of each project can vary greatly. We cannot give a general estimate as each project is unique and incurs different costs. We are not aware of any specific builders of this aircraft but we recommend checking the Aircraft Spruce Cozy Forums to see if there is anyone willing to provide this service.

Q: Hi, I was just curious, If I was planning to build a Cozy MK IV would I need to buy everything under sections I and II along with all the chapter kits? Thanks!

Yes sections I and II are part of the plans, not actual building materials.
