Overview

The kit is replaces the worn O-rings (2) on the primer pump used on non-fuel injected engine installations. The primer seals frequently are not re-lubricated until someone complains the primer isn't working or the engine is hard starting. This is most evident by the pump being hard or stiff to operate. Generally speaking, by the time the pump stops performing, the seals are worn (to the point that lube is of little value) and must be replaced.

My fuel primer had no resistance when pushing and pulling. The old o-rings were old and dry. The new o-rings were easy to install. You just unscrew the nut on the outside, then pull the plunger out. The rest of the plunger body stays in the dash. After reinstalling the plunger, my primer still did not work. I was lucky to find a tip on an online forum that the check ball could be stuck in the body. They said to pull out the primer very quickly several times to try and break it loose. It worked! After a few fast pulls, the primer works like new.

Q: What are the dimensions of the o-rings in this Primer Overhaul Kit? I have a Lukenheimer primer on a Cessna 140.

The dims are as follows: 3/8" I.D. x 1/2" O.D. x 1/16" cross width of o-ring.

Q: FYI: I just measured the O-rings on an Essex primer. They are the same dimension as the O-rings in this kit.
