Mfg. Q&A

  • What is the max amps for this plug? 1500 amps peak, 240 amps continuous.
  • What is the largest wire size that will fit the plug terminal connections? Wire reservoir in contact is 0.474” ID, so 2/0 AWG stranded copper wire is largest.
  • How are the wires secured to the contacts? Crimp? Solder? Wires are torch-soldered to the contacts. Recommend a chef’s torch.
  • Does this power plug fit the Cessna 177B Cardinal’s external 3-pin external power part? Yes, this plug will fit the external power receptacle on most late model Cessna aircraft.
  • So you must solder your heavy gauge cables in to this unit for connection to the
  • power source? Yes, the 3-pin plug (11-03158) uses solder type joints. Too large to crimp. Requires a chef’s torch (or similar) to heat the solder well before inserting the cable.
  • Do you have instructions for installing this plug onto cable? Yes, we have added the install instructions for this plug to the 'Documents' tab of the web page. Please review them there.

Q: What is the max amps for this unit? 3 PIN JUMPER PLUG #6216

Per supplier: 1500 amps, 18-32 Volts...Rated Contact Capacity is 3,000 amps.

Q: What is the largest wire size that will fit the plug terminal connections?

This can take 3 OD but supplier recommends 2 OD.

Q: How are the wires secured to the contacts? Crimp? Solder?

Per the supplier: They are soldered.

Q: Do the pin sockets (3 pin jumper plug) fit the standard Cessna 177B Cardinal external 3 pin power fitting?

Yes, the 3 pin jumper (11-03158) is the standard external power plug used in Cessna aircraft.

Q: So you must solder your heavy gauge cables in to this unit for connection to the power source?

Yes, the 3 pin jumper (11-03158) uses solder type joints.

Q: Do you have instructions for installing this plug onto cable?

Yes, we have added the install instructions for this plug to the 'Documents' tab of the web page. Please review them there.

Q: Can I use this power plug to maintain the battery charge while airplane is grounded for long time?

No, this is a plug only. You may be able to wire your aircraft, and this plug to do this, but this plug is commonly used to wire to a power source to jump start an aircraft, or to an APU to power your instrument panel.

Q: Will this fit a Beechcraft bonanza?

Yes, most Beechcraft are equipped with the 3 pin style receptacle. We cannot 100% confirm so we do ask that ytou check the receptacle on the aircraft to ensure the correct plug style is ordered.

Q: One of the questions is can this be used on the ground for long period. Your response was no. The description says 240A continuous. Am I missing something?

Typically the receptacle this plug works with is wired so that the master would need to be on. The question was about using this plug to maintain a battery and you wouldnt want to leave the master on just to charge a battery. Its better to use a charger/maintainer connect to the battery directly. But for APU, or jumping this plug would work great.

Q: Is it possible to use this 3-Pin Cessna Aircraft External Power Plug in a Beechcraft Bonanza V35?

Yes, the Beechcraft are typically outfitted with the same 3-pin style plug.
