Overview

In aviation, CO is commonly produced by equipment such as piston-driven aircraft, ground servicing equipment, and airside vehicles. Turbine engine aircraft exhaust and auxiliary power unit (APU) exhaust can also contribute to the accumulation of unsafe levels of CO. Being aware of the potential for carbon monoxide (CO) exposure and poisoning is crucial for eliminating safety hazards and preventing accidents. The AV8 Inspector’s advanced sensor technology allows for accurate readings of carbon monoxide concentrations, before it becomes a problem

The Sensorcon Av8 appears to be a quality instrument. It was tested in several environments and alerted as expected. I like the mounting choices as it will be used as a portable instrument. I feel they got it right.

Sensorcon AV8 Inspector Pro Portable Carbon Monoxide Monitor

Great little CO monitor. Compact size, mount secure with its included clip and seems quite sensitive. Taxiing with door open shows 5-10 ppm and once door is closed, she drops to zero in a few seconds. Easy to read and priced right too.

My card CO monitor alerted postive, so I bought this product. I found out when I taxi with the door open, the prop wash was sending CO into the cabin. I watched the values go up as the door was open, and go down with the door closed. A good safety purchase at a good price point.

Q&A

Please note, Aircraft Spruce's personnel are not certified aircraft mechanics and can only provide general support and ideas, which should not be relied upon or implemented in lieu of consulting an A&P or other qualified technician. Aircraft Spruce assumes no responsibility or liability for any issue or problem which may arise from any repair, modification or other work done from this knowledge base. Q: The instruction manual does not include information about battery replacement (that I found find). Is the battery replaceable by the owner/user or must it be done by the manufacturer?

Yes the batteries are replaceable and you can buy anywhere. Lithium CR123A.

Q: What is the difference between the standard AV8 Inspector and the PRO?

The Pro version adds Vibrating Alarm, Alarm Adjust, and 24 Hour TWA. Vibrating alarm adds another layer of notice capability by vibrating the unit when the alarm is triggered. Alarm adjust allows you to adjust the high and low values for alarm trigger (they are preset for the standard model). Finally, 24 hour TWA is Time Weighted Average which displays the maximum 8 hour average in the last 24 hours.

Q: Most CO monitors have a limited life sensor that must be returned to the factory for update/replacement. Does this SENSORCON AV8 unit have a limited life before the sensor must be replaced?

Per the manufacturer, it must be replaced every 2 years.

Q: Is the electrochemical sensor replaceable?

Yes. Per the manufacturer, it must be replaced every 2 years. However, per the manufacturer, the sensors must be replaced by manufacturer.

Q: Where is this unit and sensor manufactured?

Buffalo, NY per the manufacturer.
