Hex head aircraft bolts are made of high-strength type 4037 or 8740 alloy steel (type 8740 is most commonly used). The bolts are centerless ground and threaded after heat treatment. Minimum tensile strength 125,000 PSI. Cadmium plated per specification QQ-P-416A, Type II, Class 3. Available with shank drilled for cotter pin or undrilled for stop nut application, and with or without drilled head for safety wire. Specify bolts to have undrilled shank by adding letter "A" after the dash number. For bolts with drilled head add letter "H" after the AN number. (AN3H-15) See illustrated examples. "C" represents Type 431 Stainless Steel (contains iron which is magnetic). The length of AN aircraft bolts is measured from under the head to the end of the shank. The "grip" is the unthreaded portion of the shank. See table for conversion of length and/or grip to proper AN callout. "C" stands for stainless. Others are cadmium plated.

Great to have a good selection SS hardware available in Alaska.
These are great. I am building a small scale radial engine. Will be using a 32-14 prop, and these are the prop bolts. They are perfect. Mike Brainerd
Arrived as ordered
The bolts that came with my kit were slightly bent so they caused a bushing to warp. The new bolts were perfect!
It is a great product it got the job done.
Hello, I have placed hundreds of orders with Aircraft Spruce over the years and this is the first one I have received that was not 100% correct. Most of my orders include various types and quantities of hardware and metals. Included with my order were two AN4-17A bolts and received one AN4-16A (undrilled), and one AN4-15 (drilled). This is not a complaint. I will just add the bolts to my next order. I just want to say that Aircraft Spruce has an outstanding track record and I will remain a loyal customer. Thank You for your great service, Eric Mercer
Exactly what I ordered. Cant do better than that.
Your service is top --- 100%
I needed a few small, hard to find bolts for brake calipers for a ‘67 Lotus Elan. Tried quite a few places, both on-line and in some local stores (Hardware stores, Home Depot, AutoZone, etc) . I was able to find them here. Even though it was a small order, it was serviced quickly. I had the parts in just a few days. And the first class mail shipping option saved me quite a bit on shipping. I would definitely recommend.
My order was sent out quickly and correctly!

The chart online only offers the bolts with drilled or undrilled shank in both stainless and cadmium. If you wish to order drilled head, you will need to either use the "AN Bolt Selector" which can be foundby searching that phrase on our site, or using the "Order By Part Number" link near the "Cart" icon on each page.
AN3 bolts use AN365-1032A (Cad Plated) or AN365C-1032 (Stainless) for locknuts and AN310-3 for castle nuts.
The tech data sheet does not list a separate tensile strength for corrosion-resistant steel bolts. That would indicate they would be rated the same per the TDS.
The discount schedule for large quantities are: 50-100 = 15% / 100+ = 20%. Package quantities are usually 25 but we can sort them however you prefer as long as you mention it in special instructions at checkout.
