I found this abrasive compound too aggressive to clean the spark plugs. Will have to purchase something less abrasive so I can have a better control of the cleaning process.

I should have bought this years ago! This works so well and is so reasonably priced that any all aircraft owners should buy one. The only issue I have encountered is that the grommet that you stick the plug through can spin in the containing groove, and can push thru into the housing if you arent careful. But easily worked around and it just simply works!

Q: Is the abrasive power compatible with aviation spark plugs? I read where you are not supposed to use glass beads.

The abrasive that our supplier uses is "Black Diamond", which is an industrial abrasive that does not break down as glass beads tend to do. It will clean without leaving any residue (glass dust) or build up on the plugs.

Q: Which cavity do you pour the abrasive into? The cavity next to the spark plug or the one nearest the air inlet?

The abrasive goes in the cavity closest to the air inlet.

Q: What is included in this kit? (Sand? Air fitting? other?)

The unit will have a bag of abrasive and a nipple fitting for the air inlet.

Q: What is the part # for extra abrasive?

Extra abrasive can be purchased using part number 12-00787.

Q: The grommet diameter seems too small for an aviation spark plug to fit through it. Do you have to make the grommet hole a little larger diameter for an aviation spark plug to fit through it.

It is designed as a one size fits all. Just push the sparkplug through, but it is just a rubber grommet, and can be cut if the user chooses to do so.

Q: Is it safe to use the compound that comes with the kit on Tempest finewire plugs?

No. For the fine wire plugs you will need the walnut abrasive. It will need to be set up as a special order. Please request this through one of our sales team members.

Q: What is the minimum air pressure required for the spark plug cleaner?

Requires 40 PSI

Q: Can you post instructions on how to use the cleaner?

We have added the Instructions PDF in the Documents tab on this web page.

Q: Can the black diamond abrasive be reused when collected in the bag?

The abrasive stays in the bag and you reuse it until it shows signs that it is no longer cleaning the plugs.

Q: Do you have grommet replacements for this Universal Spark Plug Cleaner?

Yes, our part number is 12-05308
