Spruce has always had stock. saves money due to longevity. Whelen has excellent support for there products.
Very bright - brighter than expected. Installation was easy. On our 74 Skylane, the wires were about 6-9 inches too short so they needed to be lengthened.
Easy install and perfect fit replacing my old Whelen tail light. Cessna 170.
Very well made, bright and easy to install item. The order was processed quickly and I got in a couple of days.
Wonderful product, adds a beautiful look to my aircraft!
Great looking addition to the tail of my Seabee. Very bright. Bolt pattern was correct but had to enlarge socket hole on my rudder as new socket is a full 1-1/8” diameter. Worth the effort!
Outstanding Product and high-quality. Straight-forward install on my Grumman AA-5B and many times brighter than the stock lamp. Had to switch the polarity on the wires, but I have had to do that on the wingtip lights (Whelen Chroma) as well. Just switch the spade connectors and youre rolling.
Havent actually installed it yet:) This will be the last light to go LED or Xenon on my plane. Appreciate the salespersons help on the phone re the orientation: SOME Cessnas take a horizontal mount I believe it was four years models around the M and N series. This is not reflected (no pun intended) in your catalogue, which makes it difficult to order, since it only calls for a vertical mount for Cessnas. Anyway, nice and bright, and I didnt need/want a strobe back there, so perfect.
I recently replaced the wingtip lights with the Whelen Orion 600 system and decided to replace the position light on the tail with the Whelen LED position light so that all the lights would match. This product is so much brighter than the old incandescent light bulb, I really love it.
I ordered the 14V vertical mount version of the Whelen LED tail position light to replace the existing Whelen A555A tail position light installed on my Citabria. In the Aircraft Spruce catalog, Whelen states that “Whelen 71554 Series LED Tail Position Lights are an exact footprint for Whelen Models A555A…Tail Lights”. This is simply NOT true. The base of the LED tail light has a larger diameter than the base of the A555A tail light so it would not fit into the tail of my Citabria where the A555A fit fine. Looking at the two side-by-side, it can easily be seen that the LED base is of a larger diameter than the A555A. The online dictionary definition of footprint is the area occupied or affected by something”. So I’m not sure how Whelen is coming up with the wording of “an exact footprint for”. I ended up returning the LED position light.

The vertical & horizontal is in reference to the orientation of the mounting holes/screws.
Vertical = 12 & 6 o'clock
Horizontal = 9 & 3 o'clock positions
Typically 90% of installs require the vertical mount.
Yes, that will fit the same footprint.
