Beautifully machined case. Looks very sturdy we’ll see. Was a very tight fit on our AEIO-360A1D. The mounting flange makes it difficult to install the nuts on the mounting studs. You need to wiggle the starter in a bit at a time.
B&C BcS206-149-12 Starter For Lycoming Homebuilt
Nice new starter. Came in an appropriate amount of time. Good packaging. Maybe sending some free stickers with orders would be cool, especially when spending over 700$ on one item!
After 2 Skytec 149-12LS starters and 2 additional replacement solenoids, I decided to try a B&C starter - based on their reputation for excellent products. It is working as advertised.
Far and away this starter was preferred by the group that flies canard airplanes like mine. It seems to use much less battery with more cranking power due to the design. My old starter was an inline version with no solenoid so the install took a great amount of time for the baffle mods.
Incredible quality, great design. Far better than the competition.
Top quality and design, lightweight and easy to install. I have installed/owned many B&C products and have never had any problems. Im an A&P/pilot and refer B&C to other mechanics and pilots without hesitation.
I gave it 4 stars because of a fit issue which applies to Piper PA-28-140 planes with a front-mounted oil cooler. The oil cooler needs to be remounted at least 1/2 to the outside of the baffle to avoid touching the solenoid mounted on the side of the starter. I fabricated a bracket that moves the cooler .6 outboard to avoid hitting the starter and .75 inwards to avoid hitting the nose bowl. Not an easy fix, but the starter works great and I was able to use a 2 AWG cable instead of 0 AWG cable for power.
The starter works as advertised. My only complaint is that the old starter cannot be returned for a core charge credit.
Excellent
Required a lot of modification. Two of the mounting holes are so tight that the original mounting bolts will not work. I had to put studs in the motor bolt holes and use nuts on them to hold starter in. The power nut is located on the back of the starter instead of the side and required the power cable to be rerouted. The starter works well with no problems after the install.
