Yes, when the Continental O-200 manual says to use these between the intake and the case, and between the intake and the nuts, that isnt some sort of joke. Yes you need them. It also says to tighten the nuts finger tight and put a cotter pin in. Ive never seen one installed correctly, and I see an endless string of people asking others online if they need to use them. Read the manual. I suppose they work well as seals too, but thats not what I need them for.

OEM as called out for in the X30010 Continental Overhaul manual, page 103. REQUIRED to have these rubber washer seals between engine case and intake spider to prevent rough running engine at power. Per the OH manual, “Install castle nuts and tighten finger tight. Advance as required to install cotter pin. Do not use a wrench on the castle nut.”
