These FAA-approved gascolators are CNC-machined out of 6061 aluminum for longer use and feature anodized "O" ring seals for improved sealing capabilities and a bayonet tab locked bowl system. No more wire bales popping out of the cover or stripped thumb wheels or screws. Direct replacement for factory parts. FAA-approved for many Piper, American Champion, Husky, Maule, Taylorcraft, Dynac and Cessna aircraft.
Fits in existing Piper mounting brackets. Drain port is 1/8" NPT. Drain valve will need to be ordered separately. Great for homebuilders also. All fittings and drain plugs are for display purposes only and are not included with gascolator purchases. 8130 Form are not available for these gascolators. |

Great product however order AN913-1D’s to plug extra holes otherwise you may be waiting for additional parts while installing. Aztec needs one plug each side, no sure about other aircraft.
Excellent product
We installed this on our Cherokee 180. I wish we had done it a long time ago. No more fusing with the OEM part! The Steves unit is finely machined and a joy to look at. Expect to have to fuss with the Piper mounting bracket to get it flat and to do some minor cowling work to accommodate the drain valve. Be sure to order the 90 degree fitting for the drain.
This is an excellent design and solution for my leaky gascolator on my Piper Cherokee. I would suggest Aircraft Spruce add the 90 Deg fitting (AN914-1D) to the recommended parts as it is listed in the Steves Aircraft Cherokee Hints. It could have saved me from having to make an additional purchase where my shipping was more than the part cost so I could get my plane back up flying. As far as I can tell the Cherokee Hints paper is only shipped in the box with the STC and instalation instructions.
Ordered SA3-00B as called for on a 1957 172. First one arrived was obviously a used return. Pipe putty residue all over unit and in threads. Immediately called into ACS and asked for overnight shipping since my plane was down for annual. Rep agreed. Replacement arrived next day, this one brand new. Installed without issue and was pleasantly surprised to see zero modifications needed done to the airframe for install. Unit bolted up to OEM bracket and all lines installed perfectly. New system is simple, elegant and seemingly reliable. Replaced tall glass-bowl unit with terrifically awkward latching mechanism.
Very happy with product. Easily replaced my previous gascolator and is manufactured with high quality. STC paperwork was included as well as installation instruction. Highly recommend this product.
The 1/4npt taps could have been 2 or 3 turns deeper, but still a nice part.
Theae are great units and well worth installing . This review is for a c-150M. This does not bolt directly to the oem mount. You must buy a bracket and spruce doesnt carry it. The braket must be drilled to match and is made of stainless. The instructions mention back drilling but that is not going to happen. It must be marked, removed, drilled and re-installed. Also, for the 1976 150, the fittings do not line up exactly and the unit must be mounted slightly off center to even work. I am afraid Steves did not do an excellent job with the bracket design. One mounting hole interferes with the oem mount and a clearance hole must be drilled. Not a bad installation when done but more work than it should be.

Yes, these are Steve's Aircraft Gascolators. Part number for quick drain valve of this unit is 05-01869 (CURTIS DRAIN VALVES CCA-1550).
Yes, we have added them as "Accessories" to this web page. Please remember that this is the o-ring that seals the bowl to the top of the gascolator, not the o-ring for the quick drain valve.
The 3/8" National Pipe Thread is actually 1/2" inside diameter. The drain valve is a 1/8 npt , preferably a Curtis 1550 valve (05-01869).
SA3-00 is approx 3-3/4" length x 2-3/8" max OD. SA3-00-B is approx 4-1/4" length x 2-3/8" max OD.
Per the supplier: Normally, the gascolator is before the fuel pump and not after. We have tested them to 180 PSI.
Yes, the paperwork included with these gascolators are the STC, AML (Approve Models List), and Install Instructions.
Per the supplier: Yes, it can.
The recommended drain plug will be either CCA-1550 or CAV-110.
The unit has 1/8" NPT threads, so the drain valve needs to be the same. There are a couple styles to choose from. Please review part numbers CCA-1550 and CAV-110 on our web site. Both are are 1/8"NPT and are commonly used as drain valves on gascolators.
No. The bracket is not included.
