I’ve only bench tested so far but these are very bright and well made. I would have liked a mounting setup that didn’t require removing the lens but that’s a minor issue

Whelen Microburst Plus Kit III MB3K

August 8, 2023

These were purchased to reduce the current draw from the original Whelen wingtip Nav/Strobes on my Rotax powered Ultravia Pelican PL. The 912ULS has only an 18 amp alternator, and the old strobe power paack and halogen lights consumed over half of that. The Microburst Plus LED set uses only a fraction of that. Great product for Rotax powered experimentals.

Q: Regarding the WHELEN MICROBURST III KIT MB3R & MB3G LIGHTING. You state that no external power is required. How is it powered?

Per supplier: It needs power but notes say Self-contained (no external power supply needed). Basically an additional power supply is not needed. You can hook it straight into aircraft power.

Q: Does this Whelen Microburst III Kit have FAA / TSO Approval?

The Microburst series does NOT have TSO approval. If you want a certified product then you will need to look at the ORION series. We offer it on our website, keyword search "Whelen Orion" to locate them.

Q: The item heading states that it is a kit. Does this Whelen Microburst III Kit include both wing nav / strobe lights or is this per side?

This kit is sold as a pair. One for each side.

Q: What is the warranty for the Whelen MB3 lights?

I attached the Whelen Aviation product warranty sheet to the web page under the "Documents" tab. Please review it there.

Q: What is the ampere draw on the Whelen Microburst III?

The ampere draw for the Whelen Microburst III, part number 11-08473, is as follows: .66 amps for position lights and 1.2 amps for anti collision light.

Q: Regarding the Whelen Microburst III Kit: Is separate power for the nav lights and the strobe lights required? In other words, can the strobe lights be on when the nav lights are on or do they require separate power and have to operate independently of the nav lights?

The nav and strobe lights have separate power leads available. Typically these are wired in a two switch configuration.

Q: Do these provide a direct mechanical replacement for the A600-PG-PR WING TIP STROBE?

The direct replacement for the A600 series is the Whelen Orion 600 series.

Q: Is shielded wire needed to prevent noise feedback or is unshielded OK? The drawing does not specify.

No, shielded wiring is not required.

Q: Do the Whelen microburst III kits have white anticolition lights?

Yes, these kits have rear facing white nav lights.

Q: It states on the product page that this Product does not meet the requirements of 91.205 (c), required for night flight. Yet, it provides position/NAV/and Strobe. So WHY does it not meet the requirement?

Per Whelen: It does not meet the requirements for the coverage and light outputs for 91.205 night flight operations. The Orion series does meet those requirements.
