This is a fairly high-grade, high-carbon steel wireto specification ASTM A-228. It is a “cleaner” steel than hard drawn and exhibits a better fatigue life. Today, music wire is made by either direct drawing from rod or lead patenting. As a guide, most stocked music wire thicker than 0.0625" is more likely to have been direct drawn. Although very high in tensile strength, must be capable of wrapping around itself without showing signs of cracking. 156 ft. of .049" dia. wire per lb. 22Ga., 46 ft. of .090" dia. wire, per lb. 32 Ga. |

Not too hard to work with (to bend) and regular wire cutters will cut it. I used up about 4 feet (plus another 4 feet in mistakes) to make the four baffle spring fasteners for my inter-cylinder baffles. This page: http://n140tw.blogspot.com/2013/11/baffle-spring-fastener-wires.html helped me make the fasteners. But minimum purchase is one full pound which for the 22 gauge gives you 156 feet of wire. So I have nearly 150 feet of wire left over. Would be nice if sold by the half-pound.
