Q: Is this Appareo Stratus ESG transponder a slide-in replacement for the analog Garmin GTX 327?
There is no direct ADS-B slide-in replacement for the Garmin GTX 327.
Q: Will this transponder fit in the mounting rack of a King KT-76A transponder?
No. This unit will not fit into the mounting rack of any other avionics unit.
Q: Does the Appareo Stratus ESG transponder meet all the TSO requirements for ADS-B out?
Yes. This transponder meets the TSO requirements for ADS-B out, however, the version listed on this page is intended for use in experimental aircraft only and cannot be sold for certified installations.
Q: If I buy an ESG 1090 now for my RV, to take advantage of the FAA rebate, can I have it moved next year to a certified plane Im considering for restoration? (If I keep the RV it will get a new glass panel and the Stratus will become surplus.)
Based on the part number of the experimental version we sell, it cannot be later installed in a certified aircraft as there will be no paperwork for the sign off.
Q: Is there a version of this Appareo Stratus ESG 1090 ES transponder that is able to be sold for certified installations?
Yes, but you must purchase the certified version from the avionics install shop performing the install.
Q: My plane currently has no transponder. What else do I need to complete install that the Stratus ESG kit doesn't provide?
Do I need transponder antenna and an altitude encoder?
New installations will require: Encoder, transponder antenna, circuit breaker and coax cable.
Q: Does this unit have ADS-B in as well than can be displayed on an iPad?
This unit is only equipped with ADS-B out. For ADS-b in to the iPad you will need the Stratus 2S.
Q: Does the Appareo Stratus ESG transponder come with a mounting rack?
Yes, the rack, backplate and connector kit are included.
Q: Will the Appareo Stratus ESG transponder qualify for the FAA rebate if installed in my experimental/homebuilt by me? I am the builder and have the repairmans certificate.
Yes, this unit qualifies for the FAA rebate program. Please see the FAA rebate website for more information on the program and qualifying aircraft.
Q: Does this Appareo Stratus ESG 1090 es digital transponder include a transponder antenna and GPS antenna for the internal WAAS GPS with the install kit? What does the stock 4 ft wiring harness consist of?
The unit does not come with a transponder antenna, but does come come with the gps antenna. The wiring harness is the power, ground, and altitude encoder wires.
Q: Does this Appareo ESG 1090 ES transponder accept serial altitude information? Or grey code altitude information, or either?
This unit can be wired for either serial or grey code altitude information.
Q: Is the Appareo Stratus ESG digital transponder compatable with an ACK, Garmin and other altitude encoders?
Yes, these are compatible with other encoder like ones from ACK and Garmin.

Q: Does the Appareo Stratus ESG have output pins to provide WAAS position data to other avionics?
PER THE INSTALLATION MANUAL - Stratus ESG cannot be used as a GPS position source for navigation for LNAV approaches outside of SBAS coverage.
Q: Can the waas gps in the Appareo Stratus transponder be used for my ELT?
No, the WAAS GPS in the Appareo transponder cannot be output to an ELT.
Q: Does the Appareo Custom harness include the harness to the altitude encoder and the Stratus connector and antenna coax?
If not can you build this harness for a complete installation?
The custom harness can be done to any specifications you want. It comes standard with the encoder connection, but we need to know if it's gray scale or rs-232. With custom harnesses, the Stratus interconnect can be done as well.
Q: Can this transponder be paired with the Garmin GTN 650? Will it interface with it and allow me to input atc codes from the 650?
There is no interface at this time.
Q: What is the recommended encoder for use with this Appareo Stratus ESG transponder?
This unit will work with most grey code or rs232 encoders. Our most popular would be the ack 30.9 (pn: 11-02375).
Q: Is a GPS antenna cable provided with the Appareo Stratus ESG xpdr?
No, this unit does not come with a GPS coax cable.
Q: Is the Appareo Stratus ESG transponder, part # 11-14464, TSO-C166 certified?
No, the transponder listed on this web page is the experimental version. For the certified version, please see part # 11-16274.
Q: Does this experimental version still qualify for the October 2018 $500 rebate program?
Yes, this unit does qualify for the rebate.
Q: Does the Stratus ESG come with all parts necessary for installation? For example, D-Sub pin.
The unit comes with all installation parts except for coaxial cables and wires for the harness.
