these wing strut fairings are horrible. They are not even the same size as the original fairings. This becomes a problem because screw holes are way to close to the edge of the new fairings.

Awful. The lower fairings fit and were correct. The uppers were not even close. I have a 172G

Yes, the struts would have to be removed for the install. A keyword search for " Cessna Split Strut Fairing " will show you the results for the split fairings that can be installed without removal of the strut.
