Overview

Install it right on the plane. Simply drill out the two rivets holding your old latch system on your door. You will use these two same holes to install the Blue Sky Latch. The latch is made from TPE (thermal plastic rubber), it has excellent weather ability, and stands up to extreme temperatures. Next use a hack saw blade and cut off that point on your door stem. Then use a small hammer and tap the strike on the end. Align your door using the phillips head adjustment on your door stem. Your done. The Thermal plastic rubber acts a bumper as well as a latch. You will really like this product!

You get all the hardware including structural AN screws and elastic stop nuts in the kit. Step by Step installation guide with photos showing how easy it is to install.

Great kit! Easy install and did exactly what I was looking to achieve. My tail dragger makes the doors even harder to stay open and this kit fixed all my issues.

Also no issue installing two sets, one on a 150, the other on a 172. Dont get the other guys comment. These are pretty easy to install and after you get the alignment correct they work great. 4 hours to install? Cmon. More like less than 1.

Item works great for me. No problem installing them and it holds the door in place very well.

Had to epoxy one side onto the old clip because it would pull off after the door latched Into it due to the tight fit. (Yes they were installed properly with the angle in the correct direction) They do work and they work well once you can secure the part onto the old metal latching unit.

Im quite pleased with this product. It is a good solution to keeping the C-150 door open. You have to be careful when opening to not change the alignment. It is not perfect, but I can not think of a solution that would be better. Give is a try, it is not a lot of money.

End result is excellent, install is tedious at best. Bracket will break when being bent and need repair and paint after fitting.

Q&A

Q: Will this Blue Sky Latch for the Cessna 150 / 152 work on a Cessna 172?

Per the supplier: No, it will not work on the 172. We do not offer a latch for the 172.

Q: Does this come with the materials for one or two doors?

This item is sold in a pair. It will be enough for two doors.

Q: Dose this Blue Sky Latch come with an STC?

Here is what the install paperwork states about FAA Approval and install: "Like the original Sky Catch, the Blue Sky Catch is designed to be easily installed by the aircraft owner, and is intended to be considered a 'minor alteration'. If you have any qualms about doing the installation yourself, we absolutely recommend you obtain the services of a licensed airframe mechanic. The caveat of course is the most licensed mechanics will be reluctant to attach parts to any certified airplane without STC/PMA documentation. The Blue Sky Catch is made of a rubber "tip" that simply pushes onto the end of the catch stem, and it would be easily removed if found unacceptable by authorities. The catch attached to the door dips a little further into the regulatory gray area. The door catch must be held in place by two fasteners. It too is easily removed, but it does require replacement of the original friction door catch, by drilling out the two rivets that secure the original part. If there is any doubt or questions about the legality of installing the Blue Sky Catches, we recommend you request a 337 field approval for their installation. If you fail to obtain regulatory approval, and are unwilling to install catches without it, you may request them for a full refund, no questions asked."
