Q&A

Please note, Aircraft Spruce's personnel are not certified aircraft mechanics and can only provide general support and ideas, which should not be relied upon or implemented in lieu of consulting an A&P or other qualified technician. Aircraft Spruce assumes no responsibility or liability for any issue or problem which may arise from any repair, modification or other work done from this knowledge base. Any product eligibility information provided here is based on general application guides and we recommend always referring to your specific aircraft parts manual, the parts manufacturer or consulting with a qualified mechanic.

Q: Do these engine kits come with an instruction/assembly manual or DVD? Are special tools required to assemble one of these engine kits?

No instructions are included and yes it requires special tools. No one should attempt to build an aircraft engine unless they have a A & P license and have experience building aircraft engines. Designed for professionals only.

Q: Does the starter and alternator come with this motor? is this a remanufactured Lycoming engine? Does the engine come with mags and the light speed is just extra?

Per the overview description, the engine does include alternator, starter, and mags. The Light Speed ignition is extra, and must be requested at the time of order. This is not a remanufactured engine.

Q: Where are the engines or kits shipped from?

These are shipped directly from the manufacturer, who is located in Texas.

Q: Regarding IO-320-B1AC2 SUPERIOR EXP ROLLER LIFTER ENGINE KIT, The website says Attention: Roller Lifter Engine Kits do not come assembled, assembly required. Exactly what level of disassembly are we talking about here? Accessories off? Cylinders off? A box of parts? Just trying to understand, as even some seasoned aircraft mechanics will not assemble an aircraft engine, depending on the level of assembly required.

The old style roller lifter was like the Continental style that all parts were included in unit and held together with a snap ring. The 2nd generation removable style lifter has the same internal pieces as the normal Lycoming lifter. The components for the new lifter is SX80000 roller body, SL78290 hydraulic plunger and the SL15B21319 socket. All slide together and no retaining clip. This is the normal way to install a Lycoming or Superior XP flat tappet lifter. All our engine kits from about 2010 and later have the removable roller lifter already installed and the kit comes with all the parts and pieces to install.
