Mutt Muffs X-Large

$59.75/Each
Part# 13-05540
MFR Model# XLARGE

Overview

The inner foam that we use is the exact same ester resin foam that is used in many high end commercial head sets designed for humans. Based on the materials used, the estimated decibel reduction is between 21 and 24, assuming proper fit and a good seal against your pup's head. That's 21-24 dB reduction in the human hearing range of 20,000 cycles per second, which is the only range that we have data for. Our canine friends can hear much higher frequencies (in the range of 43,000 cycles per second). As the frequency goes up, so does the effectiveness of Mutt Muffs, simply because the higher the frequency is, the more easily it is absorbed. Therefore, Mutt Muffs are especially effective at protecting against the high frequency wind whistles and shrieks we humans cannot even hear.

There is another factor that comes into play as well. The dog's own ear flaps are down and covering the ear canal, providing yet another layer of protection, better even than placing your hands over your own ears.

Mutt Muffs are designed not to block out all sound, but to be a passive, noise reducing device that will make a ride in the airplane a comfortable experience for your mutt.

Reference Chart

SIZE CHART
The overall circumference measurement of your dog's noggin at the largest point is the best determination of size, because if you choose a size too large, the muffs won't seal well against his head, and you lose all the sound-reducing properties you were shooting for. Your dog's weight is also a good indicator of which size to choose.

Reviews

I have a Golden Retreiver year and a half old, bought the extra large and they fit great. He wore them the whole flight with no problem. Many more to go. Wish I could get noise canceling.

I bought these for my border collie who is afraid of most loud noises. He tolerates them well and seems to get some relief from the anxiety. He can still hear the noise, just not as much. I am pleased with the mutt muffs because they fit well and seem comfortable.

The headphones arrived fast. Very well made and they look adorable on my furbaby. Unfortunately they don’t help with the constant loud boom of The never ending fireworks and or other explosions going on here in a Philadelphia. I will unfortunately have to return them. Vet prescribed a sedative hopefully it will work as the holiday weekend is coming up.

Fix is good. Easy to adjust and put on the dog. When we tested them at home, she had them off in seconds, But, in the plane she happily leaves them in place. From that, I take it that they work and she appreciates them.

Fits my dog perfectly. I was worried she might not cooperate with this but no problem. They appear well made.

My dog doesnt seem to mind them at all. He doesnt try to take them off, and he cant seem to hear much when theyre on. He didnt mind flying in the plane without ear protection (he just slept the whole time) but I figured adding some hearing protection would be best for him.

We got XS for our 7 pound mutt (a mix of who knows what hes actually such a dorky looking dog that hes cute). Anyway, they fit very well on him. He did paw at them initially, but now hes happy to wear them and sits obediently while I put them on him and seems to be happy with them on for long trips.

The muffs are just as described, seem to be made so that they will protect the dogs hearing from the noise. They are adjustable and fit fairly well. I am satisfied and would recommend them for pets hearing protection.

Q: I have a rough collie (Lassie type) who is very sound sensitive. I measured his head and he's at the top of medium or the bottom of large in head circumference. Would it be better to go smaller or larger, do you think? He's about 70 lbs., but collies have smallish heads. Thanks.

Probably best to go with the smaller size as it is essential that there be a tight seal to gain the noise reduction benefits. "If you choose a size too large, the muffs won't seal well against his head, and you lose all the sound-reducing properties you were shooting for."

Q: Are the Mutt Muffs black in color?

Yes, the outside of the Mutt Muffs are black.

Q: My dog gets scared when fireworks go off. Will mutt muffs help her not get scared?

These will reduce the noise the dog hears. However, we have no data or testing which shows how effective they are for eliminating firework noise. They were intended to reduce the sounds of the airplane engine for dogs.

Q: Can I return them if my dog wont keep them on?

Yes, we accept returns on product that can be resold as new within 30 days of receipt. Please try them and if they do not work, return them before use. If the product appears used or damaged, a return may not be accepted.

Q: Do they work if you dogs ear stand up?

They should work for blocking the noise but they may be slightly uncomfortable for the dog if they have very pointy ears.

Q: I want to make sure the color is black not the gold it appears to be in some pics.

These Mutt Muffs are black.

Q: An earlier post re dogs with pointy ears was answered by you that they may be a little uncomfortable. Does that mean they have to be bent into the ear cover cup? We need ear protection for a French Bulldog, yup really big standup ears. Have you tried them on those types of dogs?

Yes, they may not be great for dogs with pointy ears. They are better for dogs with floppy ears.

Q: Are they good for concert venues? I am looking for protection for a service animal that will be around loud music often.

These will provide hearing protection in any environment, however, the amount of noise reduction varies by fit on the animal and it will not provide total quiet.

Q: I am looking for a set of muffs but want them to be Bluetooth so that My dog can hear me so that I can soothe or reassure him if needed. Do you have anything like that?

At this time, there are no canine headsets available or Bluetooth mutt muffs.

Q: I have an English setter and need a pair, which size would be best?

Most likely Large size but each dog is different so we cannot guarantee fit.
