Overview

Comtronics very popular two-place portable intercom was designed for pilot/copilot communication in high noise environments. Separate volume controls are adjustable by either pilot or passenger to meet individual hearing needs. This intercom can be used as an intercom only or a complete package with the addition of a single transceiver using a matching Comtronics radio interface cable with push-to-talk switch. The ULTRA-COM II integrates directly with all Comtronics headsets and helmets providing air-to-air and air-to-ground communication. This intercom includes a 3-foot adapter cord connecting to various external inputs such as a radio interface cable with push-to-talk switch for a single transceiver.

Creative circuitry has been designed with an automatic internal noise-canceling feature eliminating the bothersome "tweaking" when adjusting the background noise. This system also includes a unique side-tone circuit that allows the user to hear his or her own voice assuring proper operation.

The aircraft-grade metal enclosure virtually eliminates all stray radio interference. This circuitry is live all the time just like talking on the telephone.

The 9-volt battery is convenient because its gradual power reduction provides adequate warning of impending power failure. The ULTRA-COM II can also be used with a 12-volt power cord eliminating battery replacement. This cord come with a secure lock-ring and can be ordered either stripped and tinned or terminated with a cigarette lighter plug.

Features include a radio port for transceiver and cell phone, power port and music port which would also include capability for an iPod, iPhone, MP3 Player and camcorder.

There are two slide switches mounted on the circuit board next to the battery enabling a pilot to mix and match microphones. One switch can be placed in the "E" position for Electret Microphones and the other switch placed in the "D" position for Dynamic Microphones.

A face plate is available for panel-mounting the ULTRA-COM II.

An ULTRA-PAQ II Intercom Holder can also be added. This is a sturdy enclosure for shock-mounting the intercom to the airframe. Construction is a heavy-duty vinyl with hook-and-loop webbing. This is a nice adjunct keeping the intercom safer from vibration.

Q: Are the headset sockets in the front plate for U/174 plug style?

No, they are called an Ultralight plug (where the U/174 is a helicopter style plug). It is .25 single plug used in Ultralight and glider applications.

Q: Is the plugs of radio adapter cable compatible with all current radio sockets(SP-2.5 mm , MIC-3.5 mm) ?

No, the radio port is a 3 pin din connector.

Q: When the switch set to Dynamic , is it workable for M-87 dynamic MIC ?

Yes, as long as the impedance is 300 ohms the M-87 dynamic mic will work.

Q: I have a hand held ICOM A-24 + 2 David Clark Headsets installed in my (very noisy) ultralight, will your intercom work with these?

Yes, this Comtronics Ultra-Com II Intercom will work with the A-24 and David Clark headsets as long as the David Clark headsets have the ultralight style plugs.

Q: Is this Comtronics Ultra-Com II intercom TSO approved?

No, Comtronics intercoms do not hold FAA TSO approval.

Q: does the ultra comm 2 come with an adaptor or can i purchase one that would allow me to connect my Icom A6 handheld thanks

Per the manufacturer you can use 4014-D for the ultra-com intercom, which is our part # 11-15718.

Q: Will this work with Icom A16 radio?

This will work, however you will require an interface cable created by the manufacturer. For example, 11-15725 or 11-15726.

Q: Will this intercom work with a Yaesu fta-550 radio ? If so, is there a specific cord that is available to connect the two as well as a push-to-talk ?

Yes, it can work but you will need a few adapters to make it work. Comtronics works off of a single .206 plug 11-00685 GA to Comtronics plug and 11-07712 push to talk.
