This beacon works great, and is much lighter than a strobe, or mechanical beacon. If you are not overburdened with regulatory requirements, try this bulb: 01-0421758-00B (non TSO)
fits restart 172S aircraft (1997+) - love the new WAT (Whelen Aviation Tech) box!

Whelen 5043301 28V Lamp Assembly
Worked like a champ. Fit perfectly
Just what I needed to fix my beacon. Fast response, shipping went quickly. Got it installed on my plane next day. Thanks. Just a bit over-priced is my only negative thought. But, hey, its aviation.
Works as advertised but way overpriced for what turns out to be a fancy replacement bulb
Bulb is OK but way overpriced!
Whelen 5043301 28V Lamp Assembly
Lasted just over two years and 225 flight hours. Simple light with cheap plastic housing. I don’t see why this couldn’t be a simple bayonet light at a quarter of the price.
Purchased the Beacon, bulb lasted about 4 flashes and quit. Bought this overpriced bulb hoping it will last more than 4 flashes. Aircraft Spruce said not our problem, take it up with Whelen
