Other people online have complained about the accuracy of these steam-powered gauges. I tested mine and found it to be 15F low at 100F and 15F high at 220F. At 180F it was spot-on... Also, it IS NOT 48 long. More like 52. Installed on 1955 C-170B/O-300D
Oil Temperature Gauge 100-250 48 Cap
After my beloved Aeronca Oil Temperature gauge failed at the probe to line interface, I discovered it was difficult to find a mechanical OT with a 48 line and also had the right range of indication. This fit the bill for a CAM4 airplane and it was perfect in boiling water. The flight test showed it was the usual 100 degrees over OAT for the A65 Aeronca. I miss the OE gauge that went down to 40 degrees because it gave a positive and quick view of warm up. But this works.

I installed the Oil Temp probe and Indicator in my C172 with no issues. System worked as advertised. Thank you.
Oil Temperature Gauge 100-250 48 Cap
The first one I received read 190 degrees in boiling water, I returned it and in 24 hrs had one that tested 210. Close enough. Installed and works fine

The gauge is just what I needed and works well. I did see other reviews that encouraged doing a boil test to make sure the gauge is accurate. The first one failed and I returned, the second works great. I would also tell anyone using this gauge to test before installing.
