Good service.

Good coverage, quick recoat time, and less odour and toxicity than zinc chromate and other self-etch primers. Paint does aerosilize resulting in overspray “dust” on surrounding surfaces, so be sure to spray in well-ventilated areas and cover up flat surfaces in the immediate work area.

Q: Does the A-702 have a shelf life?

The shelf life for item number A-702 (09-02127) is 3 years. All Plasti-kote and Tempo products have a 3 year shelf life.

Q: Is Tempo A-702 Zinc Phosphate Primer able to be used under Poly-Tak fabric cement? I see it's a modified epoxy product and it doesn't seem to affect the dried primer on a test piece. Thank you, Wayne

In the past Poly Fiber has told us to only use Poly Tak over epoxy primers, so I would say no, unless Poly Fiber tells you something different for your application.

Q: What is optimum coverage? I am using the green and it seems to take 4 coats or more to get a solid green color, but is it necessary to go that thick? I don't mind seeing an uneven coat as long as it provides protection. Also the fewer coats the less weight, not to mention less $$ in primer.

It doesn't say in the instructions, but in general, an acid etch primer like this does not require it to be a solid color, just coat the material and it will etch it.

Q: What kind of surface prep is required? Do I need to use an etchant before using this product?

This is a self etching primer and intended to be used on bare metals. An etch is not needed.

Q: What kind of surface prep is required? Do I need to use an etchant before using this product?

This is a self etching primer and intended to be used on bare metals. An etch is not needed.

Q: Is this primer to promote adhesion of a top coat or corrosion protection or both? Will it provide corrosion protection without a top coat?

This is a zinc phosphate self etching primer. It does help adhesion, but more commonly used for corrosion protection without a top coat. commonly used on aluminum interior parts.

Q: Other than color, any differences between the yellow and green Tempo zinc phosphate aviation primer? Read anecdotal write-ups that yellow goes on smoother ... fact or fiction?

We are unaware of any other difference besides the color. We sell twice a much of the green than the yellow primer.

Q: For surface prep, other primers require a light sanding after cleaning. The instructions on the spray can only indicate that the surface should be clean, dry, and free of dust. Is light sanding required or recommended? Thanks

Per the supplier: This will depend if the surface you are planing on putting this product on is smooth or rough. If the surface is rough, then a light sanding will be recommended.

Q: To clarify the surface prep question, clean, dry, smooth aluminum sheet used for skins should not be sanded prior to application?

Correct, as per vendor, this seems to be more of a personal opinion. If the surface is smooth enough with no rough spots then it would not need to be lightly sanded. It will only needed to be lightly sanded if what you are spraying the primer on is rough, to sand down the rough spots to make it smooth.

Q: I just painted my first item with this primer. It is a mild steel bracket that was prepped with scotch bright and Acetone. After half a day of drying, it is still very tacky to the touch. Is this normal?

Per the supplier: This may be depending on what the weather conditions are like. Please review the tech data sheet which is linked in the "Documents" tab of this web page for more information.
