Overview

Inspecta-Shield is a durable, non-toxic, fire retardant chemical penetrate which when cured and dried, is odorless and colorless. Inspecta-Shield will retard flame in materials such as fabrics, poly foam, paper, and wood. The flame protection will generally last for the life of the product to which it has been applied. Inspecta- Shield is environmentally compatible and will protect surfaces up to 2,200F. In addition, when it is applied to fabrics, upholstery, carpets or wood, these surfaces will retain their color and resist sun rot up to 50% longer. Inspecta-Shield is a Class A rated flame retardant that meets F.A.R. 25.853 (a & b).

Note: Inspecta-Shield is corrosive to aluminum and other metals. If it comes in contact with metals be sure to wipe off metal and clean thoroughly.

The test strips that I treated was dipped, not sprayed. I subjected the test strips to a natural gas flame, totally engulfing it, for about 30 seconds. The test strip never flashed or smoked. So far, I am very impressed.

The previous ,and til now only review of this product gave it zero out of five and was essentially a paragraph length whinge-a-thon about the fact that the product is massively corrosive to metals of all kinds including painted, coated, anodized, whatever. A characteristic that is explicitly stated in the description above, and presumably equally so, if not More so, in the documentation that comes with the

Absolutely do not use this product on anything made out of aluminum. If you don’t like your airplane use it. They lie when they say it is not corrosive after it dries. If it gets moisture of any kind in the airplane it will absolutely destroy anything aluminum that it comes in contact with. The time and money spent to stop the corrosion on the floor of my airplane is ridiculous. The product was absolutely dry, was allowed to dry for over a week. It was not in the airplane for three months before I started to see the powder coming out from under the carpet. It took me days to remove the corrosion and prime the floor to stop it. Nowhere does it say that if it’s moistened again it WILL DESTROY YOUR AIRPLANE!!!!!????

Not recommended! The manufacturer is not kidding when they warn that this stuff is corrosive, it will literally destroy any metal it comes into contact with, wet or dry, including painted, coated or plated surfaces. A little undetected overspray from one light application was all it took for serious damage to occur to seat frames and metal zippers in less than a year. Never again!

Per the supplier: In dry state there is no reaction. Inspecta Shield is corrosive to aluminum and other metals when wet. Inspecta Shield on metal should be wiped off, the metal cleaned and dried immediately. It has been used for over 20 years in aviation. Note FAR # on label.

Q: We would like to apply Inspecta-Shield on a stretchers basket which is made from High-density polyethylene. Is Inspecta-shield suitable to be applied on this surface?

Per the vendor, it is not likely that it would work but they have not tested it.
