Overview

HDACF series provides simultaneous flashing, alternate flashing or both. It will operate one, two or three strobe lightheads. Operating the wing tip strobes in the alternating mode will provide an accumulated 42 joules of power to each light. When in the simultaneous mode, the accumulated power to each light is 21 joules. In the three light mode, the wing tips will flash simultaneous at an accumulated 21 joules each, they alternate with a third light operating at an accumulated 42 joules. On the trigger selector outlet, a switch mounted in place of the jumper will allow wing tip outlets 2 & 3 to be turned off, while the tail outlet 1 will remain on. This function is commonly used when the third light is for ground operations. This power supply will operate from 10 to 30 VDC.

I ordered the unit as a replacement for an older power supply. Immediately after ordering, I found the problem with the existing supply (bad solder joint). Aircraft Spruce had already shipped the new unit in the hour I took to attempt to cancel the order. The return of the unit for a full refund (except for shipping costs) went flawlessly. Great Job!

The Whelen A413A/HDA-CF-14/28 Strobe power supply was purchased to replace a failed Whelen power (A413, T3-14) supply that had been in my aircraft since the 70s. The left wing tip section of the old unit had failed. Both the older unit and the new are approved under the same STC SA800EA so, for logbook purposes, it is a simple remove and replace. Several things stand out about the replacement: 1) The mounting holes are identically spaced which means that the new unit fits right down over existing mounting holes . (2) the strobe noise, while still faintly heard in the aircrafts audio system is much quieter. (3) The new unit draws more amps - 7.5 vs. 4.0 (4) The new unit weighs less - 2.1 pounds vs. 3.5 pounds (5) The shield grounds from the cables going to each of the three strobes must be snipped from their existing connection to pin 2 of each connector and connected directly to airframe ground and (most importantly) (6) The unit works beautifully and all lights are brighter.

Works well. Got 10+ years and 1,450 hours out of last one. I could complain about the price too, but they got you grabbing your ankles in anything aviation. Gotta buy another one. Pass the grease.

Very easy to install, replaced 10+ year old failed power supply with this. all 3 strobe lights are bright and working well. The cost is kind of rediculous for what it is

Works great, but apparently made of gold and platinum. $674.00 to make your strobes flash-aviation for the little guy must die.

Q: What is the difference between this unit and 01-0770028-05?

There is no difference since they are the same part. The Whelen model number for our part number 11-16218 is 01-0770028-05

Q: For a two strobe aircraft, do I connect strobes to numbers 1 & 2, leaving 3 empty?

Per the supplier: Any 2 outputs can be used depending how you want them to flash.

Q: I am replacing my original whelen power supply A413A-HDA-DF-14 (p/n 01-0266049-40C) with this newer unit (p/n 11-16218). My concern is the mounting base screw hole alignment. Does the mount base hole pattern remain consistent when changing from an older unit (1985 era) to this newer unit?

Per the supplier: Yes, it is the same and is backwards compatible.

Q: Which strobe tube is appropriate for the new model since it has almost double the joules output from the old model? Will the old original tubes work OK?

Per whelen, it will work fine with older strobes.

Q: What is the flash type, single flash per head per cycle, double flash, comet flash?

This power supply can handle single flash double flash and alternating mode between 1,2 and 3 strobe head units.
