Overview

Now it is possible to replace your aging Garmin handheld with an iPhone running your choice of flight software. We have made it easy for you by making the new iPhone 6/7/8 Plus Panel Dock a direct replacement for your existing 196/296/396/496 Panel Dock.

Using your iPhone in your panel is easy with this Panel Dock. Just snap it in and go. In most cases you won't even need to connect any wires. If you do decide to attach power or some headphones, convenient access has been provided to those ports. When it is time to remove your iPhone, simply press the release lever. The iPhone 6/7/8 Plus Panel Dock fits in the same opening as the Garmin 196/296/396/4965 Panel Dock, and therefore can be used with Horizontal or Vertical tilt adapters.

AirGizmos iPhone 6 / 7 / 8 Plus Panel Dock

July 26, 2023

I bought this to use with an iPhone 11 with the intent of modifying it slightly to work. Dimensions of the 11 are very similar to the 6/7/8 plus, with the 11 being slightly thicker and having a larger camera area. Used a dremel tool to expand the camera cutout slightly, and then some heat to bend the catch/release tab to engage properly. Works like a charm. Installed in panel to replace existing Garmin 396 mount. I wish the mounting system was something other than Phillips screws with lock nuts, as trying to get two hands behind the panel to tighten is virtually impossible. A bolt would have been better a bolt with the head captured by the mount would be best.

Fits well and is typical well made by Airgizmos, but it lacks an indent for your finger to reach the side power on/off switch. I used a Dremel to add that feature.
